I’ve been busy working on my thesis, which, among other things explores the relationship between the celebrity aesthetic and eating disorders… well, it gets into it in a circumspect sort of way, because, I’m ultimately arguing a somewhat intangible position, but, you know, those are the most interesting ones!

Anyway, in my research, Jessica Simpson’s name keeps coming up again and again … it’s like…. all roads lead to flipping Jessica Simpson! She just so completely embodies a wacky sort of modern quixotic nutty psychological fantasy that I can’t stay away … and all of the coquettish antics with blatant wardrobe malfunctions and nipples flying everywhere while still maintaining those innocent (throwback to simpler and more naive time) eyes while figuring out how to get a nipple to pop out!!! well, it’s really too damn much… and, what kills me is that I’m really starting to like the girl… I’m really starting to sort of feel like I know her!

And, I want to explore this idea of celebrity as well, because, I don’t think it’s unique to me … how is it that we form these imaginary relationships with people???

You’ll notice something else about Jessica in this video (the one above): even when she’s looking right at you, she always remains supremely aware of her tits. Really. It’s true… I’m not trying to be off-the-wall. Pay attention to her eyes and her posture in particular… this girl’s aware of her little funbags like I used to be aware of a bloated nose pimple when I was in high school.

This truly represents in every possible way everything that makes our pop culture so utterly disposable… it reminds me of Joyce Carol Oates’ story Where Are You Going Where Have You Been? … Wow, I bet you I can pretty much guarantee that’s the first time anyone’s ever typed that Jessica Simpson makes them think of fucking Joyce Carol Oates! Oh, I don’t want to get obnoxious here, but, that’s sort of on the funny side… okay, granted I have a somewhat absurd sense of humor …

after Jessica concludes that she is indeed in love with me, of course, she quickly realizes that she wants to love me forever…. well, holy fuck ain’t I one lucky skinny heinie lady!
