Hi, everybody. You know, somebody recently told me I was too serious, and, I do have a tendency towards that… especially when talking about certain feminist tangents: like my favorite… about how the phenomenon of popular, 21st century celebrity influences popular aesthetic values and some of the side effects.

Okay, that having been said, I do have a sense of humor, and, I try to incorporate humor into the presentation of serious information….. anyway, what I’m getting at is here’s a video just for fun… It’s Fonzie jumping over the shark … I remember seeing this on TV years ago… and, it got me to thinking about Happy Days and Arthur Pukarelli and Richie and so forth…

the first thought about the Fonz is just how old was he supposed to be … his presence in the program was quite incongruent! A bunch of sappy high school kids with the leather jacket lover boy of indeterminate age… speaking of the Fonz as lover boy, did you ever think about how sexuality was constructed on Happy Days? The Fonz, for example, was portrayed as being rather romantically prolific; yet, the extent of amorous indulgences seemed to be limited to “making-out” over at Inspiration Point or his apartment proper… I mean… that was the extent of the sexual projection of Happy Days… kissing or necking and lol Inspiration Point… from time to time one of the Happy douches, like Richie or Potsie would accidentally walk-in on the Fonz while he was getting busy with a fifties-era, poodle-skirted hussy…

…but, it was always “AAAAAYYYYEEE!” as Fonzie douche and the bimbo are fully clothed, necking on the couch… if Fonzie were indeed such a stud shouldn’t Ralph Malph have walked-in sometime to see Fonzie with a mouthful of pussy … or banging doggy-style with his leather jacket flapping behind him? Well, you know… that sort of scene might not fly…

But, as you’ll see, speaking of flying, is what brought this stream of somethingness onto your computer monitor, and, you know, I want to thank you for reading me… I appreciate it, and, it gives me a good feeling while typing here knowing that I have some readers… (nobody has much interest in my books you see…) anyway, what brought this all up is Fonzie douche jumping the shark… do you remember that? If you’re in your thirties, I have a feeling you do, and, there’s something really disturbing about that! There’s something disturbing about having a shared cultural context that leans so heavily (at the exclusion of more worthy reference points) towards Fonzie, Laverne and Shirley, George Jefferson, the contestants on The Apprentice and American Idol, and Tony Soprano … but, that’s also part of the whole celebrity cultural trip, and, like it or not, it’s our trip…

ps. watch out because I was tempted to riff about the pathos of Al … you know, does anybody consider what a tragic figure he was… serving those pukes their vanilla milk shakes and retiring to his cobwebby apartment to make love to Rosey dePalm (while thinking about Pinky Tuscadero of course! aaaaaahhhhh!)
