Pulp Fiction: Lots Of Bad Words Video
Lately, largely inspired by the whole Michael Richards thing, there’s been a lot of discussion on this site about language. Now, neither Katie nor I are linguists, but, that’s definitely something that we’re both interested in, and, philology is an excellent focus for a scholar who’s going to write about, well, just about anything, because, as Nietzsche showed us, it’s such a solid starting point for the analysis of so many things. I remember when I read The Genealogy Of Morals a bunch of years back, and, it just completely changed my perspective: as far as understanding historical climates through etymologies.
Now, I want to quickly mention a few points. First, I really don’t like using euphemistic expressions like “the n word.” If you have a need to say the word, or, to quote somebody who said the word, then just type the damn word out! Okay…
Along those lines… this is quite annoying in writing: f*ck … somehow, if we would be offended by seeing “fuck,” we won’t be offended because the “u” is replaced by a *. Now, really, how much sense does that make? I mean, we’re all intelligent adults. We see the star and we’re filling in the “u”… so, really, it just doesn’t make any sense.
Okay, I’m just touching briefly (very briefly) upon this stuff now… I wasn’t going to bring it up at all, but, I saw this fairly amusing Pulp Fiction video composite, and, the author simply linked together all the clips in which someone’s using the F word. Oh, sorry, I forgot, I don’t like those euphemistic expressions! The author linked the verbal “Fucks” together.
Okay, I readily admit that I may not have the most sophisticated sense of humor, but, I am what I am …
