The Death Of Carla Sobrado Casalle
Well, friends, another member of the Brazilian fashion world has died due to anorexia complications. This time it’s Carla Sobrado Casalle who was a fashion student. There is a disturbing lack of information in the mainstream news (or any news for that matter about Carla.)
That’s a bit surprising, considering the significant and encouraging interest in Brazilian model Ana Carolina Reston who also died as a result of anorexia.
I don’t quite know how to interpret the lack of coverage. Part of me wonders if a news source may conclude that one anorexia death story from the Brazilian fashion world is enough for a one-month period. I don’t know if that’s the case. I’m just speculating. Or, perhaps because Carla Casalle wasn’t an actual fashion model, but a fashion student instead.
So, there’s a little coverage at Yahoo. And, our friends over at Mama Vision have shared their thoughts.
Please, friends, blog and write about anorexia, body image, and Carla Casalle as well. Carla was a part of the same milieu as Reston, and, it’s just such a tragic, heartbreaking situation when women are dying to become skinny.
And, this situation doesn’t seem to have an end in sight. That’s what kills me. The Hollywood celebrity value system is still cranking out the aesthetic that ultra-skinny is the only way to be… and, women are dying.
Yours,
Katie
