Cindi Berger… Is That You?
How are you publicist Cindi Berger? I see over at Newsday (considered by many to be a reputable source) there’s an interesting quotation that has your name attached to it. It goes like this:
“You’re giving the American people too much credit…. They’re not that smart.”
Is that so? I’ve known many Americans who are quite intelligent, and, besides, gross generalizations go against my grain because they tend to be… well… gross. (Sort of like the gross way Rosie O’Donnell recently characterized the entire Chinese population… which numbers over 1 billion people by the way.)
Anyway, Cindi Berger’s quotation was in response to the conceptual idea the Dixie Chicks had for the cover of Entertainment Weekly. Now, that’s really not a very nice (or accurate) thing to say about the American people. Do you think it is? You, Howard Rubenstein, publicists in general… you know, you’re supposed to put your clients in a better light, and, somehow… you just manage to do the opposite it seems some days.
Now, what’s interesting, and, what I’m trying to figure out, (but, I’m struggling a little, because, please forgive me, I’m an American, and, I’m just not too smart) is why this search on the reputable Google is returning a connection between Cindi Berger and Rosie O’Donnell?
I’m just not that smart of an American, and, maybe my readers can help out a bit? I’m here scratching my head and trying to figure out if the “rep” I read about in the New York Post, and, that I’m currently writing an article about entitled Rosie O’Donnell: We Don’t Want To Grasp Your “Humor”!
… I’m just trying to figure out if the “rep” that I’m writing about; whose rather callous and, in my opinion, thoroughly bigoted remark is the same Cindi Berger who made the repugnant anti-American remark cited in the Newsday piece linked and referenced above. I’m trying to figure this out…
I do see this document, whose verity I cannot vouches for, does connect the names Rosie O’Donnell and Cindi Berger; and, it is dated 11/29/2006. As a side note, you will notice this document uses the expression “gay friendly,” which seems quite ironic; given the unfriendly nature of Ms. O’Donnell’s Chinese impression, you’d just think that she’s be a bit more sensitive to such matters.
In addition, I see this transcript from CNN, dated May 21, 2006 also ties Cindi Berger’s name to Rosie O’Donnell.
Now, of course, I’m not a detective, and, I’ve yet to establish that the same Cindi Berger who made the anti-American remarks in reference to the Dixie Chicks is the same Cindi Berger who made the stupid and, in my opinion, racist remarks in respect to the entire Chinese population.
You’ll have to forgive me, you see, I’m a little curious; see, I’m an American scholar on the verge of a doctorate from an Ivy League school, you know, and my little, not-so-smart pea brain just sort of works this way.
Anyway, as I understand it, publicists have a little saying about there being no such thing as bad publicity. That being the case… Cindi Berger, here’s a little free publicity for you… whoever you are. : )

She’s a publicist you idiot. Cindi Berger has many clients including Sharon Stone and Jessica Simpson. They refer the them as ‘reps’ in news reports. She also handles both Rosie O’Donnell’s pr and Barbara Walters’. Get with it Ivy League Katie!

Hi Hollywooderr,
I repeatedly refer to Ms. Berger as a publicist; thus, your remark is difficult to understand. We are also thankful to Ms. Berger for eventually making the right decision.
We have researched her thoroughly, and, we’re aware of her clients.
Yours truly,
Ivy League Katie : )

Katie,
I understand your curious-style writing, at the same time it seems as if you’re leading readers to suspect that Cindi Berger is malice or is even racist.
I’m saying that she is a publicist and that this is the entertainment industry. One cannot make so big an assumption of someone in her field. All great publicists have controversial moments in their career. They’re job is to act as the mouth-piece to their clients. It is not fair to pick at her in these specific (and very few) instances when she was most likely just doing her job.
I’m no Cindi Berger associate, but I do work in entertainment and understand the daunting job of the publicist.
Thanks for the response Katie. Did not mean to be patronizing in the first comment.
