Rosie: We Won’t Ignore Each Other!
Well, I see CelebritySatan isn’t the only blog that’s unhappy about the lack of mainstream media coverage that Ching Chong Rosie’s display of anti-Chinese racism received. We’re told with glib undertones by Rosie’s publicist that we don’t have the humor comprehension skills to grasp her humor. To which I say, “We don’t want to grasp your ‘humor’”
And, to make matters worse, Rosie refuses to issue a real apology. So, if we, as world citizens, have learned anything from this embarrassing spectacle of hurtful ignorance, it’s that in America it’s okay to insult Chinese folks.
To which I say, make no mistake:
FUCK NO! ANTI-CHINESE RACISM IS UNACCEPTABLE!
And, I’m going to follow the lead of the good folks over at Reappropriate, and link out to the other blogs that are speaking out against racism.
If the mainstream media isn’t going to acknowledge the inherent wrongness of this callous attack on over a billion folks (not to mention the insult to the sensibilities of many more), we can begin to at least network and band together as like-minded bloggers. At least to some extent.
So, I’m going to roll through the list put together at Reappropriate and hopefully drive a little traffic and increasing attention to how it hurts our feelings that our mainstream media hasn’t condemned this racism, and, in addition, how hurt and offended we are that Rosie O’Donnell hasn’t issued an apology.
Okay, I linked to my posts above, and, in those posts you can see the video and what coverage was given by the newspapers… moving along:
Michelle Malkin shares her thoughts.
I thoroughly enjoyed the It Comes Forth and it Shoots Through: Orientalism and American Discourse analysis of white supremacy (and more) over at The Primary Contradiction.
Newsbusters points out the hypocrisy of Ching Chong Rosie’s gay sensitivity vs. her racial insensitivity.
Hollywood Grind explore Ching Chong Rosie’s racist rationalizations.
Francis explores the sense of alienation he experienced as an Asian in the midwest; and, significantly, Francis explains the message he interpreted when someone made “ching chong” noises at him on the street: those ching chong noises translated to “You don’t belong.” And, I really wish Ching Chong Rosie would go over and read Francis’ blog… perhaps, if she did, her publicist wouldn’t be so disgustingly glib in her hope that someday Francis is able to grasp Rosie’s humor.
Hollywood Snark gets into it.
And, over at a short post in Paxalles an important observation is made:
Once again, liberal entertainers pick and choose who they single out for politically incorrect treatment - and Asian Americans are an acceptable target, along with Christians and Southerners…
Yes, indeed, Paxalles, I absolutely have made the same observation. I’m not sure why this is so, but, it sure does seem to be true!
The Anti-Essential Conundrum (and, great name for a blog) stirs it up.
The good folks at Hyphen weigh-in (no pun intended) on Ching Chong Rosie as well.
And, over at the Defamer, there’s a nice bit of coverage as well (I like the title): Rosie O’Donnell Will Not Let A Few Angry Asians Spoil The ‘Ching Chong’ Fun.
So, friends, that’s a bit of a starting point. I thank Reappropriate for putting it down. And, I thank each of the bloggers for sharing on important human issues like this one. And, I thank all the thoughtful readers that we are blessed to have.
And, in situations like this where the mainstream media ignores us… it’s important that we don’t ignore each other.
Yours in Christ,
Katie
