Happy day after Christmas everybody. To be honest, I feel depressed. The holiday season I was always able to handle okay, but, I have got some family problems. I’m actually going to work on the blog a little to take my mind off of things… and, what better way than to think about people more fucked-up than me… yeah, I’m talking celebrity plastic surgery…

And guys plastic surgery is big… you may not realize how big… let me tell you that in 2005 nearly 11.5 million cosmetic surgical and nonsurgical procedures were performed in the United States. Guys… that’s a hell of a lot of plastic surgery! That’s a hell of a lot of nips and tucks and smaller nose and bigger boobs and facelifts and you get the idea…

Now, I don’t need to be too long-winded or philosophical or brilliant about this… basically, what it obviously says is that we’ve got a really superficial ethos national trip going and a lot of people are real, real, real unhappy with their appearances… so unhappy that they’ll look in the mirror, pick-up the phone, and reach into their wallets and high-tail it over to their local neighborhood cosmetic surgeon…

And, as always with this site, we usually make a connection between how the mass media affects every day people. Now, I know we like to think we’re independent and our own people and all of this… but, let’s face it… we get influenced by the ethos and images and the blasted celebrity culture…

Which brings up celebrity plastic surgery. I was looking at TMZ today, and, I get a kick out of TMZ… they run that site great… my guess is that they have a lot of people working for them and a lot of money…. anyway, they do a really good job, and what I was impressed with was they had a celebrity before-and-after plastic surgery photo gallery. They subtitle it The Plastics: Stars Transformed! And, you can see before-and-after pictures of Priscilla Presley, Dolly Parton, Janet Jackson, Michael Jackson, Kenny Rogers, Kathy Griffin and others. Now, as a side note, I was a little surprised to see Kathy Griffin had plastic surgery… she strikes me like she would be sort of above that… but, see, this is how this whole thing works… it affects everybody…

And, it affects me too. I am very observant of beautiful women. I ain’t going to lie. I am incredibly superficial myself. I go to the gym and look in the mirror and I’m bothered by my discolored teeth and I’d like to have a cosmetic dentist fix them (if only I had the money.)

But, yea… I got eyes and I’m a man, and, if I look at a picture of Jessica Alba’s ass… well, yea… that sort of slender stuff does it for me… I can’t lie. Now, Ms. Alba was blessed with such a figure and she didn’t need any surgery. But, the idea is… yea… I’m just as superficial as the next guy or gal.

I’m part of the whole fucked-up thing that I criticize.
