And, it happens fairly often, and, it’s so often totally silly… albeit inevitable. Inevitable because politicians are celebrities of sorts and their popularity is predicated upon many of the same factors which allows for success in the more conventional celebrity realms of film, music, television, etc.

So, it’s bound to happen. And, needless to say, it’s a curious thing indeed that so many of our elected politicians feel qualified to lead: I’d say it’s patently obvious that many don’t have the needed intellectual facilities for that role. And, it’s even more curious when actors and actresses suddenly feel they are qualified to fill leadership roles. And, if you’re not careful, what happens is …

Okay, don’t anyone take offense… I meant that in good fun. The basic idea, though, is that perhaps Hollywood celebrity culture and Washington D.C. political culture are best off if they don’t cross… but, they do. They cross all the time.

I will say, however, that in some cases, such as this ongoing Lindsay Lohan Al Gore interaction, it does provide for substantial amusement: and, it is worth a bit of analysis.

First a few words about Al Gore. Mr. Gore, obviously, enjoyed considerable popularity and good will as the eight-year vice President of wildly popular President Clinton. Mr. Gore’s heart often seems to be in the right place; though, it seems he may have a proclivity for, let’s say, boasting: and, to be fair to Mr. Gore, sometimes his boasting is exaggerated, as we see in the misleading quotation popularly attributed to him concerning his role in respect to the internet.

A few words, now, about Lindsay Lohan: she’s a young, beautiful actress. This may not be the most relevant observation about Ms. Lohan, but, I think she’s damn beautiful: the dark hair and blue eyes and wonderfully angular cheekbones. Yeah, I’m pretty blown away.

Now, Lindsay, of course, is in the tabloids and so forth for her considerable antics. But, you know, she’s about twenty years old, so, really, as far as the drinking and partying… what do you expect of a young beautiful girl with a mountain of money?

Now, what is interesting, as suggested, is when the world of political celebrity meets Hollywood celebrity: as we’ve seen in some recent Lindsay Al Gore nonsensical stuff.

What kicked it all off?

Well, it seems Lindsay met Mr. Gore at the GQ Men of the Year awards dinner in Beverly Hills in December of last year. This made quite an impression on young Lindsay and she, apparently, sent off a somewhat bizarre email to some of her peeps:

“Al Gore will help me. He came up to me last night and said he would be very happy to have a conversation with me. If he is willing to help me, let’s find out. Hilary Clinton, Bill Clinton, and Evan Metroplis, and John Daur who works with them would be willing, if we just ask. If we just ASK… …

… how our society should be educated for the better of our country. Our people . . . because I have such an impact on our younger generations, as well as generations older than me. Which we all know and can obviously see.

Okay, so, that’s a rather bizarre email to say the least. And, what’s particularly disturbing, I’d say, is that Lindsay is quite correct in saying that she does have considerable influence on the younger generations. Believe me, it’s just that type of thing that makes it difficult for us to sleep through the night.

So, fast forward ahead a little to the Seeds of Tolerance event, which was hosted by Al Gore, and, to which he personally invited her. Now regardless of where you find yourself politically, to be invited to any event by any former American vice president is a considerable honor! Truly.

And, it’s reported that Lindsay RSVPed and so forth, and, Mr Gore held the show up for thirty minutes in case Lindsay was just late. But, she didn’t show. She was partying down with Paris and Britney at some Los Angeles night club. Lindsay missed a wonderful opportunity, and, she’ll probably regret it one day.

She will, no doubt, have other special opportunities, and, we hope she takes better advantage of them.
